Transfer Amex points to Avios
How to transfer American Express Membership Rewards to British Airways, Iberia or Qatar Airways — including transfer ratio, bonus and resale.
Transfer ratio at a glance
The standard Amex Membership Rewards to British Airways Executive Club ratio is usually 5:4 (1,000 Amex points = 800 Avios). Promotions often add 25% or 30% bonus. Iberia, Aer Lingus and Qatar Airways are also transfer partners with similar ratios.
How to transfer Amex points to Avios
Log in to American Express online banking, open the rewards portal, choose British Airways, Iberia or Qatar under travel partners, and enter the amount. Transfers usually arrive instantly, within 24 hours at most.
Minimum amount & fees
The minimum transfer is typically 1,000 Amex points. The transfer itself is free on most German Amex cards. There are no extra fees.
Reselling Avios
After transferring, you can sell the Avios on MilesMarket. The buyer pays into protected payment, you transfer the Avios or book an award — only then is the payout released.
Is converting and selling worth it?
It is especially worthwhile during bonus promotions. Without a bonus, calculate the per-point value: Amex points are often worth 1.0–1.2 cents, Avios resale prices are often 0.8–1.1 cents. With a 30% bonus, resale can become much more attractive.
